celtx script App Reviews

Horrible update to old desktop software-don’t waste your money

Was using Celtx for years and upgraded finally to the new script app after the company stopped supporting the old desktop version. This new version is awful and has none of the features avaiable that I paid for in the past. This is as basic as it gets for desktop. The online version is a monthly fee service which I won’t purchase. What a sham and a horriable way to treat loyal users and customers. I wish I could get my money back, I feel ripped off. Boo Hiss boo!

I Love it.

It is easy to use. It was cheap. It gets the job done. Don’t waste time shopping. If you write spec scripts this is what you need. It also allows you to write other things but for me it is spec scripts all the way. I used to use a “free” software found on the Net. It worked but it was time to upgrade. I feel like I am one with the universe now at least when it comes to fellow screenwriters. I’m not looking for frills, bells or whistles. I just want the freaking software to do what I need it to do and this one does. And, like I said, it was dirt cheap.

LIterally the Exact Same thing as the Free Account

I spent $20 thinking i would get something slightly better than the free version of it online and I didn’t, just go use the free account, its the exact same thing and actually, you at least get your scene headings listed on the side in the free version…so the free version technically gives you more than the $20 app.

Pointless

An incredibly dissapointing piece of software. Have lost work on multiple occasions that the celtx support team has been unable to recover. Just get final draft.

Fails to Respond

I have an almost-new MacBook Air with all of the bells and whistles, but the Celtx app stops responding at least twice a day while I’m in the middle of writing. Very aggravating and disappointing.

It could be much much better - very buggy

I like it for when I don’t have internet connection (when you save to your own computer by searching in help for “save” and bringing up the "save as” dialogue - this dialogue does not appear unless you do these steps for some reason). Also it has some minor problems with retina display, it goes in and out of focus. There is no setting to choose where to save to your computer and the “save” function doesn’t seem to do anything. I constantly save to the cloud, which Celtix obviously favors. Unfortunately that is problematic as you can see from the other comments. I have lost a scene this way. It remembers “Characters” to offer suggestions while writing, but you cannot edit this list, so might have a lot of superflous mistakes that it that you have to scroll through while writting. Overall it is a rudimentary scriptwriting tool, just save backups constantly. Given the mediocre quality of the app, I’m inclined to think that the paid services are not worth it. This is worth $19.99 if you have the extra money. This app needs a lot of work, other than the bugs: 1. Make saving more explicit and both local and to the cloud, 2. allow editing of suggested characters lists, 3. Allow for printing of specific scenes, not just pages.

The Free Version Was Better

I used to use the free desktop version. I got a new laptop and couldn’t find the old free version to download, so I purchased this one. It formats and writes well, but I found the free version to have more options and a better workspace. This version also has occasional page break glitches which can become frustrating. Also, I can’t find how to center a line of text for act headings and the italics function doesn’t seem to work well—I see it onscreen put when I print the script it just comes out lighter than the other text.

It gets the job done but has some bugs

It’s not as smooth as I remember Final Draft being when I used to use that. It does get the job done but it has some bugs worth sharing so the creators can fix. Character names will become part of the top of a page and there’s no way to delete them unless you re open the script. Undoing things with Command Z is slow and will take you somewhere else in the document after you do it. Sometimes when you add a space or delete something, a whole page will then seperate things and you have to delete from the beginning of the next part to get rid of the page. When I reopen a document, stuff will have switched what it is. Whole sections might become part of a scene location so then I have to re edit it and all that stuff. If I highlight sections and press delete, it doesn’t delete until I do it again or a few times more.

Terrible App, Terrible Customer Service

Two updates after I installed the app, and after deleting and re0installing the app several times it still refuses to work. Severe auto-formatting and character library issues make this app completely useless. Customer service on the backend of it is equally bad. After over a month of back and forth emails with support, I am basically unable to work on anything. In short, Avoid it.

When Collaborating, You’ll Wipe Out Changes

There is no rhyme or reason as to what is causing this. Also, the formatting changes will mysteriously change as you switch from app to desktop. Even the software itself has misssssspellings - (e.g. “rememember”) in the interface.

Worse

I have been using final draft, but that stupid software doesn’t support unicode and wouldn’t let me write in Nepali. I bought this for that very purpose. But seems this has worse formating I have ever seen! You format, close softare, then open back after sometime, non of formating are in place! Worse. I am so angry.

if you enjoy doing battle with your software...

...then i highly recommend this renegade, obstinate child of a software. Like many, i too spent alot of time on final draft (lost it when my hard drive crashed) and it was smooth sailing with more options to personalize it to how i work. this software wont help your script, it will hurt it. trust me

Closes Constantly Without Autosaving

This is the worst screenwriting software on the market right now. It shuts down or freezes every time I try to save and the customer support is horrendous.

A thorough F minus

Use anything besides this attrocious software. If it’s Celtx or nothing else then just scribble it on a napkin. This app is disappointing in ways I could have never ever imagined.

Ok, but buggy, not finished

This app doesn’t seem completely finished. So many blatant bugs. The format always puts 1 space after periods or shifts paragraphs over and looks weird. Not intuitive switching with TAB to the next format. The three most used should be character, dialoge and action. On iphone and ipad I can switch scenes around by dragging, but on mac version you can’t. Always opens at 100% which is tiny, doesn’t remember 150% is what I last used. Keeps the icloud open screen open even after I open a script. the login button keeps saying loging and doesn’t switch to logged in or say my user name. They shouldn’t charge this much for this app and then have it be crappy.

Very bad

It always quits unexpectedly, it has not a storyboard. Please remember to save your work in every couple of minutes!!!! I want my money back!

Cannot switch apps PERIOD

Awful app. In El Capitan, if I simply switch to Finder and back, my script is gone. The scene selector will stay, but the script disappears. Doesn’t come back at all doing anything except File -> Open. If you want to write, make sure you never switch to iTunes to listen to music or to Safari for research!

“Dont change a winning team."

Most of the features on this last update sound great but their instalment is less then perfect: -Edit my script on the iPad on the go? GREAT, oh wait, I can’t save it on the iPad memory only on the cloud and if I dont have wifi available on the go I’ll be working on a older draft? -Streamlined interfaced? AWESOME, oh wait, where did all my options go? -Extract a PDF from the cloud at any time? AMAZING, oh wait, it takes 15 minutes to work on anything that isn’t a computer? I mean, it looks great, but if you guys don’t seriously overhaul the next update I am for sure dropping this. On other times I would look over this things since it was a free software but at the current price it is not worthy the money, I reccomend newbies to go for a free option or drop the investment on final draft witch still is the industry standart anyway.

Why are they charging for this?

The Celtex for PC is free and it works way better than this. After I add the info for my title page and export it as PDF, the title page is nowhere to be seen. I can’t belive they are charging $20 for this. Sigh...
